Closed 14 Dec 2020

Opened 19 Oct 2020

Overview

Main Roads Western Australia is proposing to construct and operate the Southern section of the Bunbury Outer Ring Road project. 10.5 kilometres (km) of freeway-standard dual carriageway, 3 km of rural distributor roads, bridges and other associated road infrastructure between South Western Highway and Bussell Highway. The Proposal is located approximately 200 km south of Perth and occurs mainly within the Shire of Capel (including the localities of Gelorup, North Boyanup and Statham), and a small component within the City of Bunbury.

The proposal would require the clearing of up to 76 hectares of native vegetation within a development envelope of 200 ha, including impacts to threatened and priority ecological communities, western ringtail possum and black cockatoos. Construction and operation of the proposal may impact on the amenity of nearby residents.

The Level of Assessment was set as Referral Information with Additional Information (8 weeks public review). The Additional Information was required to clarify the potential environmental impacts to threatened and priority species and communities; provide an environmental management plan for conservation significant species and an offsets strategy for significant residual impacts.

The EPA is seeking public submissions on the Main Roads WA’s ‘Updated Environmental Referral Supporting Document and Additional Information’, which is released for public review for eight weeks commencing 19 October 2020 and closing 14 December 2020.

The Updated Environmental Referral Supporting Document and Additional Information is available for download from the EPA’s Consultation Hub https://www.epa.wa.gov.au/proposals/bunbury-outer-ring-road-southern-section
