Proposed Browse to NWS Development - change to proposal under s. 43A
Overview
The proposal comprises the State Waters component of the Browse to NWS Project to extract hydrocarbons from the Torosa reservoir, 425 km north of Broome. The proposal has been under assessment by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) since 2019.
During that time there have been two amendments requested by the proponent. Woodside Energy Ltd has requested a further amendment under section 43A of the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
The proposed amendment includes a reduction in development envelope size to no longer overlap the Scott Reef shallow water benthic habitats or Sandy Islet, modifications to remove or relocate drilling units to avoid green turtle habitats, and the adoption of technology to minimise the risk of a loss-of-well control event.
The proposed amendment application document is available for download from Proposed Browse to NWS Development - change to proposal under s. 43A under 3. Assessment > Change to proposal during assessment under s.43A.
