Gonneville Nickel-Copper-Platinum Group Element (PGE) Project – change to proposal under s.43A

Overview

Chalice Mining Limited proposes the development of the Gonneville Nickel-Copper-Platinum Group element (PGE) Project (the proposal). The proposal comprises a mine site, and infrastructure corridor for water and power supply. The proposal is located within the Wheatbelt region, approximately 70 km north-east of Perth, 25 km west of Toodyay and 25 km south-east of Bindoon.

The environmental scoping document for the proposal was approved on 12 November 2024. The environmental scoping document defined the form, content, indicative timing and procedure of the environmental review document (ERD). The proponent is currently preparing the ERD.

Chalice Mining Limited is seeking to amend their proposal. The proposed amendments include the following:

  • A revised infrastructure development envelope to consolidate the referred water pipelines and power transmission line into a co-located corridor
  • A revised indicative mine development envelope to preferentially locate infrastructure to reduce the clearing of remnant native vegetation required.
  • An increase in groundwater abstraction required for construction activities.
  • The addition of a solar farm for power generation, and the removal of underground mine access as part of the physical elements associated with the mine development envelope.
  • A quantification of greenhouse gas emissions.

The proposed amendment application document and supporting information is available for download from Gonneville Nickel-Copper-Platinum Group Element (PGE) Project – change to proposal under s.43A | EPA Western Australia under 3.Assessment > Change to proposal during assessment under s.43A.

Additional details are also available on the proponent’s website at https://www.chalicemining.com/gonneville-pgm-nickel-copper-cobalt-project/.

Public submissions are to be received by the EPA by 5 November 2026 (closing midnight).

Submissions should be made through this portal.
