Jimblebar Significant amendment
Overview
BHP Iron Ore Pty Ltd is proposing the expansion and amalgamation of existing operations at:
- Jimblebar Iron Ore Revised Proposal (Ministerial Statement (MS) 1126)
- Orebody 18 Iron Ore Mine (MS 439, MS 1012)
- Orebody 31 Iron Ore Mine (MS 1021).
The proposal includes the following key activities:
- Above and below water table mining at the proposed East Jimblebar deposit.
- An increase in mine dewatering and surplus water at the Jimblebar mine.
- Additional overburden storage areas north of East Jimblebar.
- Additional haul roads and creek crossing at Jimblebar Creek.
- A new beneficiation plant at Jimblebar and associated in-pit tailings storage facilities at Orebody 17/18, Orebody 31 and Jimblebar.
The proposal is located approximately 40 km east of Newman in the eastern Pilbara region.
Additional information has been prepared by BHP Iron Ore Pty Ltd in accordance with Environmental Protection Authority procedures and is released for public review.
The additional information describes the proposal, examines the likely environmental effects and the proposed environmental management procedures associated with the proposed development.
