Draft Western Swamp Tortoise Environmental Protection Policy 2026
Overview
The EPP protects the habitat critical to the survival of the only naturally occurring population of the Western Swamp Tortoise remaining in the wild.
The review of the WST EPP 2011 has considered the latest scientific information available on the Western Swamp Tortoise; land developments; and threatening processes that have occurred since the policy was last reviewed. The review also assessed the effectiveness of the existing EPP in protecting habitat values.
The proposed amendments to the EPP focus on improving its implementation and effectiveness and providing improved protection for Western Swamp Tortoise habitat.
