The EPA determined to assess the proposal at the level of API-A as the proposal raises a limited number of key environmental factors that can be readily managed, and for which there is an established condition setting framework.

Overview

Forge Resources Swan Pty Ltd proposes to construct and operate a railway line (approximately 160 kilometres (km) in length) and conveyor line (approximately 40 km in length), running from the Pilbara Iron Ore Project (operated by Flinders Mines Ltd) north to the Balla Balla Infrastructure Port.

 

What happens next

Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.

The Chairman's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
