The EPA determined not to assess the proposal, noting that the management and monitoring of dredge spoil and water quality as outlined in proponent's referral documentation meets EPA objectives

The Department of Transport (DoT) proposes to upgrade the facilities in Beadon Creek to support the growing demand for land at the Maritime Facility. The upgrade works include capital dredging a berth pocket and turning basin immediately west of the existing channel. The dredged material will be used to create additional land-backed wharf area immediately north of the existing lots.

What happens next

Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.

The Chairman's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
