Cooljarloo Mineral Sands Project – Osprey Expansion
Overview
Tronox Management Pty Ltd are proposing to expand the existing Cooljarloo Mineral Sands Project by mining a satellite pit named Osprey. The project is located approximately 20 kilometres northwest of Cataby.
The Osprey Expansion has a disturbance footprint of 61 hectares (ha) of which 59.14 ha is native vegetation.
Dredge mining will be used to avoid pit dewatering. Water for mining and concentrating will be sourced from existing licenced bores.
The final mine void will be backfilled above the groundwater table and rehabilitated
Why your views matter
At this initial stage of the EIA process, comment is simply sought on whether or not the EPA should assess a proposal and, if so, what level of assessment is considered appropriate.
What happens next
Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.
The EPA's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
