Die Hardy Project
Overview
Marda Operations Pty Ltd propose to develop a gold mining project, approximately 140 kilometres north of the town of Southern Cross within the Shire of Yilgarn.
The proposal will include mining below the groundwater table by conventional open cut methods and ore will be transported offsite for processing. The proposal also includes a waste rock landform, mine ore pad, topsoil and low grade stockpiles and supporting infrastructure.
The proposal is adjacent to the proposed Die Hardy Range National Park, Mt Manning Conservation Park and the Helena Aurora Range.
The proposal would include a total disturbance of 90 hectares of native vegetation and mining would be undertaken for 18 months.
Why your views matter
At this initial stage of the EIA process, comment is simply sought on whether or not the EPA should assess a proposal and, if so, what level of assessment is considered appropriate.
What happens next
Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.
The EPA's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
