Extension of Sand Extraction Lot 1001, Lake Clifton Road, Lake Clifton, Shire of Waroona

Closed 11 Feb 2025

Opened 5 Feb 2025

Overview

Cougar Sand Supplies propose to extend their existing sand and limestone quarry over a period of 10 – 15 years. The quarry is located approximately 7.7 kilometres northeast of the Preston Beach townsite in the Shire of Waroona.

The proposal is adjacent to the Myalup State Forest and is within an exclusion area under State Planning Policy 2.4 - Planning for Basic Raw Materials.

Infrastructure from the existing quarry including a bore, access roads and a mobile crushing and screening plant will be used to support the quarry extension.

The proposal would include a total disturbance of 21.53 hectares. Excavations will maintain a 2 metre distance to the water table.

At closure, the quarry will be contoured and rehabilitated to return the previously existing vegetation communities.

Why your views matter

At this initial stage of the EIA process, comment is simply sought on whether or not the EPA should assess a proposal and, if so, what level of assessment is considered appropriate.

What happens next

Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.

The EPA's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
