Gonneville Nickel-Copper-Platinum Group Element (PGE) Project
Overview
Chalice Mining Limited proposes development of the Gonneville Nickel-Copper-Platinum Group Element (PGE) Project. The proposal is located within the Wheatbelt Region, approximately 70km north-east of Perth, 25 km west of Toodyay and 25 km south-east of Bindoon.
The proposal comprises of a mine site including an open mine pit and/or underground mine and infrastructure corridor options for water and power supply. Road and/or existing rail infrastructure will be utilised in transporting supplies and product to and from the site.
The proposal will result in clearing of no more than 940 hectares (ha) within the 2,240 ha mine development envelope and no more than 664 ha of disturbance (which includes native vegetation clearing) within the 2,034 ha infrastructure development envelope options. The proponent will refine and reduce the infrastructure development envelope options and disturbance as the project is further defined. The maximum project life is proposed to be approximately 30 years.
Why your views matter
At this initial stage of the EIA process, comment is simply sought on whether or not the EPA should assess a proposal and, if so, what level of assessment is considered appropriate.
What happens next
Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.
