The EPA determined to assess the proposal at the level of API-A as the proposal raises a limited number of preliminary key environmental factors that can be readily managed and for which there is an established condition setting framework.

Overview

Hamersley Iron Pty Limited proposes to revise the Marandoo project located approximately 37 kilometres east of Tom Price. The proposal involves additional clearing of 400 hectares and the amalgamation of the three existing Ministerial Statements 286, 598 and 833.

What happens next

Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.

The Chairman's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
