Mardie Project
Overview
The Mardie Project (previously Mardie Salt Project) was referred on the 17 April 2018, and released for public comment from 02 May 2018 to 08 May 2018.
Subsequent to this release period, the proponent has requested that the proposal be amended prior to level of assessment being set. The requested amendments include:
- Addition of a trestle jetty for shipping/export purposes as shown in Figure 1;
- Addition of a dredging channel for construction of the jetty as shown in Figure 1; and
- Change of the proposal name from “Mardie Salt project” to “Mardie Project”.
Comments are invited in regard to the proposed additions to the project.
The original referral documents can be found at http://epa.wa.gov.au/proposals/mardie-salt-project along with the details of the requested change (see 'Requested change to proposal' and 'Figure 1').
Why your views matter
At this initial stage of the EIA process, comment is simply sought on whether or not the EPA should assess a proposal and, if so, what level of assessment is considered appropriate.
What happens next
Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.
The EPA's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
