METRONET on Swan Ferry Service Expansion: Perth to Applecross

Closed 13 Oct 2025

Opened 6 Oct 2025

Overview

The Public Transport Authority of Western Australia (PTA) proposes to expand the Swan River Ferry Network by constructing new ferry infrastructure and services at Matilda Bay and Applecross, and upgrades to existing infrastructure at Elizabeth Quay. In addition to a new jetty and terminal, construction of the Matilda Bay facility will also include onshore electric charging infrastructure for the ferries, and modification of the existing road layout to accommodate a new bus embayment and roundabout.

Of the three proposal sites, the Matilda Bay and Applecross locations will require development within and adjacent to the Swan Canning Riverpark.

The combined disturbance footprint across the three proposal sites is 1.65 hectares (ha) within an 8.66 ha development envelope.
