Mindy South Iron Ore Mine
Overview
Chichester Metals Pty Ltd is proposing to construct and operate an iron ore mine approximately 55 km north-west of Newman, and 30 km south of Fortescue’s existing Nyidinghu project in the Pilbara region.
The proposal would require a disturbance footprint of 12,487 ha and is located within a 42,331 ha mine development envelope. The proposal is located within the Nyiyaparli and Nyiyaparli #3 Native Title determination area (WCD 2018/008)
The proposal includes both above and below water table open cut pits, ore processing facilities, mine waste landforms, above ground tailings storage facilities, linear and ancillary infrastructure to support mining, groundwater abstraction for below water table mining and water supply.
Why your views matter
At this initial stage of the EIA process, comment is simply sought on whether or not the EPA should assess a proposal and, if so, what level of assessment is considered appropriate.
What happens next
Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.
