Overview

The Shire of Ashburton is proposing the development of a new regional waste management facility located on undeveloped land at 150 Onslow Road, Talandji, approximately 36 km south of Onslow.

The Pilbara Waste Management Facility will provide a range of waste management services including sustainable initiatives such as material reuse, recycling and recovery as well as treatment and disposal.

The facility will include:

  • Class IV Landfill;
  • Bulk Waste Area including: Green waste, Construction and demolition and Scrap metal;
  • Liquid Waste Area;
  • Tyre Monocell; and
  • Asbestos Monocell.

The proposed development footprint is approximately 70 ha with proposed infrastructure covering approximately 30 ha.

Why your views matter

At this initial stage of the EIA process, comment is simply sought on whether or not the EPA should assess a proposal and, if so, what level of assessment is considered appropriate.

What happens next

Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.

The EPA's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
