Robe Mesa Iron Ore Project
Overview
The Robe Mesa Iron Ore Project is a greenfield operation located within the Robe Valley Channel Iron Deposits, adjoining Rio Tinto’s Mesa F deposit, in the West Pilbara of Western Australia, within the Shire of Ashburton, approximately 180 kilometres from the town of Onslow.
The proposal involves above water table open pit mining with a total disturbance of 270 hectares of native vegetation within a 903 hectare development envelope. The proposal includes a dry crush and screen processing plant for up to 5 million tonnes per annum, ore stockpiles, product storage and transport, ancillary infrastructure, fuel storage facility, accommodation village, landfill site, freshwater dam, drainage infrastructure and a 38 kilometre non-sealed haul and access road.
Why your views matter
At this initial stage of the EIA process, comment is simply sought on whether or not the EPA should assess a proposal and, if so, what level of assessment is considered appropriate.
