Overview

Questdale Holdings Pty. Ltd. (the proponent) are proposing to clear vegetation for bushfire fuel reduction and to extend an existing sand quarry extraction operation within Lots 2 and 10 Rowley Road, Mandogalup. 

The proposal area consists of 43.67 hectares (ha) and is located on freehold land. The proponent proposes to extract sand at a rate of 195,000 tonnes per annum for a period of 10 years.  Excavated material will be screened prior to loading.

The proponent proposes to clear approximately 33.74 ha of the Banksia Woodlands of the Swan Coastal Plain ecological community (listed as endangered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999). 

This Banksia Woodlands provide potential foraging habitat for black cockatoos (Carnaby’s cockatoo and forest red-tailed black cockatoo).  The clearing will include the removal of 54 potential nesting habitat trees (Eucalyptus marginata with a greater than 500 millimetres diameter at breast height).

Why your views matter

At this initial stage of the EIA process, comment is simply sought on whether or not the EPA should assess a proposal and, if so, what level of assessment is considered appropriate.

What happens next

Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.
