Overview

Woodside Energy Ltd (Woodside) proposes to construct and operate the Woodside Solar Facility in the Maitland Strategic Industrial Area, located approximately 15 kilometres south-west of Karratha, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. 

The proposal will generate electricity (up to 500 megawatts) from a large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) farm and includes energy storage (battery) infrastructure.   

The Proposal is only for the infrastructure associated with the generation and storage of electricity from Solar PV. All transmission to deliver the power from the Solar Facility to customers would be delivered via the North West Interconnected System (NWIS), through existing, upgraded, or new infrastructure constructed, owned and operated by Horizon Power for all users of the NWIS. 

The proposal would include a total disturbance of 975.6  hectares (ha) within a development envelope of 1100.3 ha

Why your views matter

At this initial stage of the EIA process, comment is simply sought on whether or not the EPA should assess a proposal and, if so, what level of assessment is considered appropriate.

What happens next

Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.

The EPA's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
