Draft Environmental Assessment Guideline for Separation Distances Between Industrial and Sensitive Land Uses

Overview

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has released its Draft Environmental Assessment Guideline for Separation Distances between Industrial and Sensitive Land Uses (EAG) for stakeholder and public comment.

The purpose of this EAG is to:

• provide advice on which land uses require separation, and recommend the appropriate separation distances;
• outline the EPA’s expectations on the application of separation distances for schemes and scheme amendments in the environmental impact assessment process; and
• support strategic and statutory land use planning and development decisions by planning authorities where proposed land uses have the potential to adversely impact on human health and amenity.

This EAG relates to the EPA’s environmental factors of human health and amenity which may be impacted by gaseous and particulate emissions, noise, dust and odour generated from industry.

This EAG will update and replace the EPA’s existing Guidance Statement 3: Separation Distances between Industrial and Sensitive Land Uses.

Why your views matter

The EPA is seeking stakeholder and public comment on the draft EAG to help inform finalisation of the EAG. The EPA is particularly interested in comments on the recommended separation distances listed in Appendix 1 of the EAG.
