Overview

Polaris Metals Pty Ltd has applied for a purpose clearing permit to clear up to 178.8 hectares of native vegetation within an application area of 295 hectares, in order to develop the Carina Extended iron ore deposit.  Carina Extended is to operate as a satellite open pit to the Carina iron ore mining operation, and will include an open pit and associated infrastructure.

What happens next

Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied. The Chairman's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
