Kwinana Bulk Terminal Redevelopment - Marine Infrastructure

Overview

Fremantle Ports propose to construct and operate new marine infrastructure associated with the Kwinana Bulk Terminal (KBT) by developing a new bulk import and export wharf to replace the existing Kwinana Bulk Berth 2 jetty. The KBT Redevelopment is located within the Kwinana Strategic Industrial Area, approximately 30 km south of Perth, Western Australia.

The proposal includes the following elements:

• A new wharf with two ship berths.
• Ancillary access infrastructure including a causeway and approach jetty connecting the new wharf to the adjacent and existing KBT landside facility.
• Tugboat moorings, mooring dolphin and access catwalk.
• Dredging in proximity to the wharf, including a vessel turning basin, approach channel and berth pockets.
• Temporary construction infrastructure.
• Maintenance of new marine infrastructure and assets, including maintenance dredging.
• Disposal of dredged material in an approved offshore disposal site.

The Proposal has a terminal development envelope of approximately 268.5 hectares (ha) encompassing the marine infrastructure area, located south of the existing KBT. The offshore disposal development envelope is an additional 104 ha located within Owen Anchorage.

Any future replacement or upgrade to bulk material handling infrastructure within the existing KBT facility are excluded from the Proposal and, if progressed, would be regulated under other regulatory processes. Any new topside or landside bulk material handling infrastructure is also excluded from the Proposal, including amendments to the existing prescribed premises boundary and amendments to the existing or new pipeline registrations for existing bulk liquids and future foreseeable fuels. The removal of the existing jetty structure is also excluded from this Proposal.
