There were two comments on the referral, one indicating an API-B and one a PER level of assessment.

We did

The EPA determined not to assess the proposal. The proponent is required to prepare a Vegetation and Fauna Management Plan to avoid and minimise indirect Impacts on native fauna in Neerabup National Park. This plan is required under the environmental conditions attached to Metropolitan Region Scheme Amendment no. 992/33 (Clarkson-Butler). The EPA is satisfied that the impacts of proposal can be managed under the statutory planning processes to meet the EPA's objectives for terrestrial fauna.

Overview

The proposal has been referred by Main Roads Western Australia for the assessment of Neerabup Road East and Neerabup Road West only (within the Mitchell Freeway Extension).  Stage 1 (Neerabup Road East/West) project includes grade separated interchanges (including road bridges) at Neerabup Road, underpasses at Neerabup Road, and Neerabup Road upgrade from Connolly Drive to Wanneroo Road connection to freeway.

What happens next

Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.

The Chairman's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
