The EPA determined to assess the proposal at the level of API-A as the proposal raises a limited number of preliminary key environmental factors that can be readily managed and for which there is an established condition setting framework.
Overview
Australian Aboriginal Mining Corporation proposes to mine iron ore from the superficial Channel Iron Deposit above the water table in the Pilbara region. The Proposal will result in the production of approximately 2-4 Mtpa of iron ore.
What happens next
Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.
The Chairman's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
