West Angelas Iron Ore Project Deposits C, D and G
Overview
Robe River Mining Co. proposes to develop the West Angelas C, D and G iron ore deposits to sustain production at the existing West Angelas iron ore operations. The proposal is located approximately 130 km northwest of Newman.
Mining of the C, D and G iron ore deposits will involve the additional clearing of up to 4,310 ha of native vegetation within a mine development envelope of 26,400 ha.
Mine dewatering will be required to accommodate below water table mining, requiring an additional abstraction of up to 8 GL/a of groundwater. Dewatering has the potential to impact the surrounding environmental values, particularly those in Karijini National Park (approximately 4 km west of the proposed deposits).
Why your views matter
At this initial stage of the EIA process, comment is simply sought on whether or not the EPA should assess a proposal and, if so, what level of assessment is considered appropriate.
What happens next
Following the seven day public comment period and consideration of any comments received, the EPA will decide whether or not this proposal requires environmental impact assessment and, if so, what level of assessment will be applied.
The EPA's decisions on level of assessment are released each Monday on the EPA's website.
